Iris Myrtle Benoit, 83, a longtime resident of Duxbury, passed away in the comfort of her home and family on Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Born in Willsboro, NY, on February 24, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Heman O. and Mary E. (Magoon) Sweet. On July 7, 1942, she married Lanyard E. "Larry" Benoit in Stowe.

Iris attended Stowe schools and following her marriage was busy and happy as a homemaker and raising her family. Iris also worked for eight years as a nurse's aide at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, was a pastry chef at the Sugarbush Ski Area for 12 years, and more recently worked at the Park Restaurant in Waterbury for several years. In her leisure time Iris enjoyed cooking and canning, as well as hunting.

Iris is survived by her husband of 66 years, Larry Benoit of Duxbury; their children, Lona Burns of Lunenburg, Aloma Abner of Middlesex, Serene Savarese of No. Branford, CT, Aleta Corriveau of Duxbury, Zana Evans of Duxbury, Lanny Benoit of Montpelier, Lansing Benoit of Duxbury, Lane Benoit of Moretown, and Shane Benoit of Middlesex; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Beverly Welch of Aurora, NY, Velma Titus of Watertown, NY, Rita Richardson of Northfield, NH, Mona Vincent of Sanbornton, NH, and Deonne Gibbs of Wallingford, CT; a brother, Jim Sweet of Chillicothe, OH; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by two sisters, Avis Heath and Donelle Churchill.
