The Harwood girls’ tennis team won their semifinal match over Burr & Burton 4-3 on May 31 to advance to the D2 championship match against Montpelier on Thursday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at the Waterbury courts. This is the first championship match in girls’ tennis history for Harwood.

After going 1-3 in the first round of matches, the girls rallied, won the next two, and the last and deciding match, the No. 2 doubles, went to a tie-breaker. Ali Harris and Eve Golden won their match 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 (tiebreaker) to secure a spot in the D2 state championship match.

Sarah Brodeur, Mallory Wright and Anna Fortier also won their singles matches.

Harwood season final games

Harwood’s No. 5 baseball team defeated No. 12 MVU 8-5 yesterday and will play at No. 4 BFA-Fairfax on Friday, June 3.

No. 12 softball dropped a 14-5 decision at No. 5 Milton yesterday, finishing a much improved season.

No. 1 girls’ tennis won over No. 4 Burr & Burton 4-3 and will host No. 3 Montpelier in the D2 championship match on Thursday, June 2, at 3 p.m. (Waterbury courts).

If No. 11 girls’ lacrosse wins at No. 6 St. Johnsbury on June 1, the quarterfinal game will be Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at Woodstock (moved from Saturday).

No. 5 boys’ lacrosse will host a quarterfinal game versus MMU on Friday, June 3, at 4 p.m.

Harwood’s track and field team will vie for the state championship on Saturday, June 4, at U-32.
