Harwood Union Middle School gorls' cross-country team takes first at Burlington Invitational for the second year in a row.

The Harwood Middle School cross-country girls’ team won and the boys’ team placed sixth at the Burlington Invitational on Saturday, September 9. Harwood’s Ava Thurston won the girls’ race in a time of 12:16.

“The hard work and dedication that these runners have displayed over our first two weeks of practice together has been nothing less than inspirational, and their desire to get better seems to be only growing with each challenge they face!” said coach Lou Bevacqui.

The girls were led by three finishers in the top 10: Thurston (first), Wren Forbes (fifth) and Caelyn McDonough (eighth). Britta Zetterstrom (25th), Anna Sanborn (28th), Anna Alberghini (30th), and Aliza Levey (41st) rounded out the top seven. The girls’ team bested 21 other teams for the victory.

The Harwood boys’ team, led by Hale Boyden (fifth) and Zennor DiMario (10th), pushed their way through the competition, grabbing an impressive sixth-place finish out of a field of 21 teams. The top seven Harwood finishers included Silas Yonkman (30th), Ebbe Lillis (52nd), Holden Stephenson (54th), Ben White (85th) and River Collins (86th).
