Handful of locals head to NCAA skiing championships.

In two weeks the best collegiate alpine skiers will compete in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and many Valley residents will be among them.

Thomas Woolson, Brian McLaughlin and Alexa Dlouhy will be representing Dartmouth. Sandy Vietze from Warren will be representing the University of Vermont. Danny Duffy will be representing St. Michaels, and Elliot Ketchel from Warren will be representing Bowdoin.

Woolson, Vietze, Duffy and Ketchel all grew up in The Valley and all of the athletes attended Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield.

McLaughlin qualified second for men as the top-ranked giant slalom skier in the East, Vietze qualified fourth, Woolson was picked at sixth and Duffy was picked 15th.

Dlouhy qualified third for the women and Elliot Ketchel qualified 11th for men’s Nordic.
