A sweeping victory was the result of Friday’s matches against Middlebury making the Harwood team undefeated this season.

In singles play, Anna Fortier beat Sierra Barnicle 6-3, 6-4, while Emma McGeorge beat Elizabeth Bright 6-2, 6-3. Claire McGeorge beat Anna Scharstein in an unconquerable 6-0, 6-0. Eve Golden beat Anika Shook-Kemp in another 6-0, 6-0 knockout and Abby Burfoot came in with the cleanup, beating Abby Bailey 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Rose Kaufman/Marcella Grimaldi beat Ellie Keil/Isadora Luksch 6-1, 6-2, and Lilliana Ziedins /Sally Reed beat Cammy Kutter/Lois Albert 6-0, 6-1. Highlanders only allowed a few points to be scored on them in their matchups before bringing the heat and finishing the day with invincible racquets.

HARWOOD BOYS' TENNIS

The Harwood boys’ team traveled on Wednesday, May 23, for a doubleheader against rival school U-32. In the first match, Harwood’s sole win in singles went to Jesse McDougall who beat Harrison Bushnell 8-2 while Highlanders Peter Leino lost to Joe Franco 4-8, Asher Martley lost to Wilson Knight 1-8, and Ethen Lynds lost to Basil Humke 1-8. Zak Wing also lost to Owen Myka-Smith 0-8.

In doubles play, Brian Gilhuly/Owen Labombard beat Gavin Deiss/Evan Elliott 8-3, while Ryan Dessaru/Michael Fuller lost to Jack Morris/Finn Olsen 1-8.

In the second matchup of the day, Peter Laino lost to Harrison Bushnell 6-8, Jesse McDougall lost to Joe Frano in a tie-breaker (4-7), Asher Martley lost to Wilson Knight 1-8, Zak Wing lost to Basil Humke 1-8 and Ethan Lynds lost to Owen Myka-Smith in a tie-breaker (4-7).
