Lyndon never let Harwood Union find a rhythm, pulling away early and cruising to a 60-34 win in a girls’ basketball matchup on January 31 at Harwood.
Lyndon set the tone from the opening tip, jumping out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 32-12 by halftime. The Vikings continued to control the game in the third quarter, pushing the margin to 52-28 before coasting home.
“We struggled from the start tonight,” Harwood coach Tommy Young said. “They always had five on the floor with energy and played under control, and that allowed them to dominate the game.”
Makayla Savage led all scorers with 25 points for Lyndon, attacking the basket and scoring consistently as the Vikings built their lead. Gabriella Marshia added 14 points, while Grace Griswold chipped in eight as Lyndon showcased balanced scoring and disciplined play.
“They were very disciplined,” Young said. “You’ve got to give them a lot of credit. Their coaches did a great job of getting them ready for this game, and they executed.”
Harwood struggled offensively against Lyndon’s pressure and composure, managing just five points in the opening quarter and 12 in the first half. Maddie Grace Ryley paced the Highlanders with 13 points and four rebounds, providing a steady presence despite the deficit.
Liv Kielich battled inside for Harwood, finishing with four points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Anna Mae Golfhammer added four points. A bright moment for the Highlanders came when Fiona Wanner scored the first varsity basket of her career.
Despite the lopsided score, Young said the focus now shifts to growth and consistency.
“We’ll keep working on trying to match that energy and get consistent effort,” he said. “That’s what it takes to compete at this level.”
The loss drops Harwood back as it looks to regroup quickly, but Young emphasized the benefit of having another opportunity right around the corner.
“The good news is we get to try again on Monday,” he said.
