To the Editor
Thank you so much for publishing the inspiring essay by Randy Graves entitled My Formative Years (VR March 26). He stated simply some truths that we all learned growing up, but may have forgotten in our current divisive and poisonous political climate. To never speak ill of the dead, to respect those who have served the country, either in uniform or as a civilian, regardless of their politics. These are basic ideas that allow a civilization to flourish.
Only in the last two paragraphs did one realize that Graves was talking about our current president. I say that his kind and measured essay was inspiring because on reading about the same things that President Bone Spurs said about being glad that Robert Mueller died my first reaction was anything but measured and kind. Immediately, I thought of a line from the rough and tumble world of Boston politics “Don’t get mad, get even”. I realized that one of the reasons I want to outlive Bone Spurs (I am 84) is to perhaps only imagine my worst and mean-spirited self-dancing in the streets with many others, when our worst-ever president dies from a junk food overdose.
