The Stark Mountain Foundation is launching a new series of free, family-friendly naturalist-led hikes on Stark Mountain, beginning this month and continuing through October. Vermont Master Naturalist Gene O. Desideraggio will lead participants on an exploration of the mountain’s ecosystems, guiding hikers through the seasonal rhythms of the Green Mountains.
Held on the last Saturday of each month, the hikes will run from 2 to 4 p.m. on the following dates: May 31, June 28, July 26, Aug. 30, September 27 and October 25.
Each hike offers a chance to witness nature from spring wildflowers and summer songbirds to fall foliage and wildlife tracks. Desideraggio will help participants identify local flora and fauna, interpret animal signs, and connect with the natural world. Attendees may even come across a well-worn bear tree or catch the call of a hermit thrush echoing through the woods.
