The film details the tale of Julian Assange, recently released from prison and considered a defender of press freedom globally and nationally.

The award, presented by Artemis Rising Foundation, was given to Jarecki on May 19 at the Cannes Film Festival where the world premiere of his film takes place.

Jarecki has twice won the Sundance Grand Jury prize as well as Emmy and Peabody awards.

The jury that awarded the prize reported that “his films combine the skills of a journalist with the voice of a poet.”
