The annual Big Red Barn Art Show will open on Sunday, July 27, at Lareau Farm and Forest, continuing a long-standing summer tradition in the Mad River Valley. This will be the 27th year of the show, which began as a small art display at the Warren Town Hall in 1998.
In 2002, when the smaller show needed a new venue, George Schenk, owner of American Flatbread, offered use of the barn as a gallery. The exhibition got a new home, a new name and the Big Red Barn Art Show was born.
It has since evolved into a large exhibition, known for its diverse mix of talents and media. From traditional oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor paintings to innovative sculpture and glass, the exhibition is a comprehensive overview of myriad artforms. From fiber art to encaustic collage and multimedia, the Big Red Barn Show represents an all-inclusive range of disciplines. It attracts local artists as well as artists from just beyond The Valley, highlighting the concentration of creative talent in this area. And this year, the show is proud to feature a new medium; an animation piece by a local illustrator.
The Big Red Barn Art Show runs from July 27 to August 31. Hours are Thursday – Friday from 4 to 9 and Saturday – Sunday noon to 9 p.m. in the historic Lareau Barn, Route 100, Waitsfield.
