The vehicle is a blue Chevrolet pickup with a Vermont plate 404A638. It was involved in a retail theft from Bisbee’s Hardware in Waitsfield on Tuesday evening, August 12, according to Trooper Ryan Riegler.

On Wednesday afternoon, August 13, shortly after 2 p.m., troopers were alerted that the vehicle was seen back in the area near Bisbee’s Hardware.

Trooper Riegler said that soon afterward, he encountered the vehicle in Middlesex, and the driver attempted to ram his marked state police cruiser. The vehicle then fled south on Vermont Route 100B, traveling towards Waitsfield. Riegler said he attempted to stop the vehicle, but when it did not stop, he did not pursue it in compliance with the state police policy on pursuits.

Riegler on Monday said police are still seeking the man involved in the theft of a chainsaw at Bisbee’s. Additional information collected since the incident from a nearby bank surveillance camera showed that the man was a passenger in the truck on August 13 and a woman was driving the vehicle, Riegler said.

State police have shared a photo of the pickup from the cruiser’s dashcam. They also shared a picture of the man from the hardware store security camera. They are asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating both the vehicle and the theft suspect.
