For the third year, the von Trapp Open Garden Days were a success! More than 3,400 visitors from all over the Northeast and beyond toured the beautiful gardens, enjoyed the spectacular view, and chatted with Sally and Tobi von Trapp about all things horticultural.
Sally and Tobi opened the gardens to self-guided tours for five summer weekends after they ended retail sales four years ago. Now, in collaboration with Mad River Valley Rotary, this fundraiser raises funds for local nonprofits. This year the event earned over $17,000, more than double last year’s total. Adults paid an entrance fee of $10 and children under 18 were free. Kids especially enjoyed observing the frogs in the fountain.
“Tobi and I are in a bit of a state of shock at the success of this banner year and are thrilled that we can contribute to the good work that MRV Rotary does for The Valley,” said Sally von Trapp.
Susan Klein, MRV Rotary president noted, “The number of visitors this year was nearly equal to the combined population of Waitsfield and Warren. It is a stunning turnout and MRV Rotary is beyond grateful for the opportunity to share in the success of the event with Sally and Tobi.”
